Your other option is to turn comment moderation "on" you do this in your control panel. You will get an email every time someone posts on your blog, and with a click you can approve or delete that comment before it goes live.

Also,
I like do the right thing. It has all of the hallmarks of a freshman effort though. It is a brilliant film, but also one that draws attention to the filmmaking. "Look what I, the director, am doing now."

Jungle Fever and Malcom X also took on important issues and are worthy of study in the Lee ouvre (at least Malcom X is)Damianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12974627999032676012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8405430.post-3112616694022202522010-07-29T12:24:30.484-04:002010-07-29T12:24:30.484-04:00And thanks, Kate! And thanks, Kate!Joelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01261715633477165079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8405430.post-18821101014812763862010-07-29T12:24:20.176-04:002010-07-29T12:24:20.176-04:00That does make sense. But I also like that the ambiguity and uncertainty--the recognition that there is a tension--is part of what he's trying to get you to think about.Joelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01261715633477165079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8405430.post-11714999920726547332010-07-29T09:07:40.332-04:002010-07-29T09:07:40.332-04:00I watched this about 2 years ago, and it left quit...I watched this about 2 years ago, and it left quite an impression on me. The biggest problem with the film, which you point out, is that it has not aged well. If you can ignore that and stop it from yanking you out of the story, it really is a fantastic film.

I vaguely remember the controversy surrounding this film when it came out, and I was only like 10 years old at the time. Some (white) people were afraid that it would incite riots, which in hindsight seems ridiculous. Especially when you can see that Spike Lee's criticism about racial prejudice is also applied to Mookie and his anger/hatred toward Turturro's character. It's not a one sided problem.

The film's ultimate question is "what is the right thing?" Two options are given by King and Malcom X. While those two options are often seen as contradictory, I think Malcom X was arguing for an exception rather than a direct contrast to King, if that makes sense.

It's been a while since I watched it. But yes, definitely a Film-101-worthy movie.
