I just graded the paper of a student who asserted that, innocent or not, once people are convicted and sentenced to death row they should be put to death immediately. Her reasoning is that even innocent people might be driven to a life of crime after being in jail, so just get rid of them. Yikes!
Of course, this is the same student who told me today that one of the things she likes on the Internet are the death countdown clocks that predict when you'll die.
It's weird, she's really such a nice girl. I don't get it. Which just goes to reaffirm my belief that having teenage daughters will terrify me.
